Bringing Up Children in this Time

Sep 07, 2021

Before abortion, there was child sacrifice.

Before “domestic violence” had a title, there was abuse.

Before online sex trafficking, there were child brothels.

Before pornography, there was adultery and lust.

Before horrific entertainment, there was the Roman colosseum.

Before invisible swimwear, there was promiscuity.

Before America, humans have devalued humanity different from themselves.

This comforts me.

Because without Christ we have always been morally bankrupt.

Without Christ, no nation—no one person—has ever stood faultless and holy.

I am thankful for this time to bring up children, because there are daily reminders of the depravity of man. Glaring reminders that teaching my children to be “good” and “kind” isn’t enough.

Only Jesus is enough—enough to cover their sins. Enough to save the world. Enough to save their souls from eternal judgement because of the crimes committed against righteousness on this earth.

It’s easy to look back at history and long for more George Washingtons, but rebellion against God has always been the goal of fallen man. Satan has always been Prince of this world. And Christ has always led a small, completely devoted remnant through it all.

New laws won’t save our children. Civil rights won’t save our children. Polarizing Facebook posts and public arguments won’t save our Children.

Christ can. Not just save them from this fallen world. But save them from what each of us are capable of when we look to ourselves as Savior.

If Mothers of any generation look to the world for hope, we will mourn our children’s future. But if we look to Christ, we can always rejoice. He is the righteous and perfect judge we long for, and our children can find righteousness in HIM.
